What the fold actually adds
A brochure is a flyer that has been through two more machines. It is worth seeing what that costs, because it is the whole difference between the two products.
At 1000, an A4 brochure is $0.30 each against $0.22 for a flat A4 flyer on 150gsm printed one side. Some of that gap is the second side, and the rest is the finishing: the sheet is scored — a crease pressed into the stock so it folds on a straight line rather than cracking — and then folded, both as separate passes after printing.
Scoring is not optional on anything heavier than about 150gsm. Fold a coated sheet without it and the coating cracks along the spine, which is the single most common way a self-printed brochure looks homemade.
Which folds are priced here, and which are quoted
The prices above are the common folds on an A4 sheet: half fold, giving A5; and thirds, either a roll fold or a Z fold, giving DL panels. An A3 sheet folds down to A4 or to three 140 × 297mm panels and is priced as its own line.
Beyond those — a DL bi-fold, an eight-page DL, a gate fold, anything with more than two creases — the job is quoted rather than ordered from the table, because the folding is set up by hand per job and the table cannot honestly state a figure for it. Free print templates carry the panel positions for the common folds.
What is not in that figure
Delivery. Delivery is included in this price — Australia-wide, with no freight line at the cart and nothing added later. Allow 1 to 2 working days longer outside NSW, QLD and VIC. Your complete delivered price is confirmed before you pay.
Artwork, sometimes. Setting up supplied artwork is free with every print order. A brochure built from nothing is quoted per job — and brochures are the product where that happens most, because panel layout is harder than it looks.
The panels being right. Not a cost, but the most expensive mistake available here: on a roll fold the inner panel has to be a few millimetres narrower or it will not tuck. Use the template rather than dividing 297 by three.
How to read anyone’s brochure price
- What sheet, and folded to what? “A4 brochure” can mean an A4 sheet folded to DL or an A3 folded to A4 — twice the paper.
- Is the fold in the price? Some quotes price the printing and add folding as finishing.
- Is it scored, or just folded? On a coated stock the difference shows on every copy.
- How many creases? A price for a half fold rarely holds for a gate fold.
- Including GST and delivery? As always, and on a larger order the freight is a smaller share — which cuts both ways when you compare against a short run.
Common questions
How much does it cost to print 500 brochures in Australia?
500 A4 brochures printed both sides, scored and folded are $214.50 including GST, which is $0.43 each, delivered in 2-4 working days from payment. 250 are $159.50 and 1000 are $302.50. Delivery is included in those prices.
What is the difference in cost between a brochure and a flyer?
At 1000 on an A4 sheet, a folded brochure is $0.30 each against $0.22 for a flat A4 flyer printed one side. The gap is the second side plus the finishing: the sheet is scored, then folded, both as separate passes after printing.
Do brochures need to be scored before folding?
Yes on anything heavier than about 150gsm, and on any coated stock. Scoring presses a crease into the sheet so it folds on a straight line; without it the coating cracks along the spine, which is the most common reason a folded piece looks homemade. Scoring is included in every price on this page.
What folds can you print?
Half fold to A5, and thirds as a roll fold or Z fold to DL panels, are priced in the table above on an A4 sheet; an A3 sheet folding to A4 or to three 140 × 297mm panels is its own line. A DL bi-fold, an eight-page DL or a gate fold is quoted, because that folding is set up by hand per job.
What is the minimum brochure order?
250 brochures at $159.50 including GST. Printing, scoring and folding each carry a setup, so below that the per-brochure figure stops meaning anything.
How long do brochures take to print?
2-4 working days from payment, delivered Australia-wide (allow 1 to 2 working days longer outside NSW, QLD and VIC) — the same as flat print, because the folding happens in the same run rather than adding a day.
