Signage for the Sunshine Coast, made for salt air and a council that cares how the street looks
Two things shape every sign on the Coast. The first is weather: full sun and salt air punish cheap substrates and laminates within a season, so the material question is a lifespan question before it is a price one. The second is the council, which treats the low-key look of the coastal villages and hinterland main streets as a planning outcome rather than an accident, and uses signage rules to keep it. We measure at your premises, pick materials that will still look right in three summers, work through the approval question with you, and quote the sign as it will actually be built. A proof follows on your phone, and nothing is fabricated until you approve it.

What Coast frontages actually need
Three jobs, and what the water does to them
Under-awning and window signage
Hanging signs, applied lettering and window graphics are what sit comfortably on a Mooloolaba or Maleny main street where a large lit box will not. Fascia panels and fabricated letters for the Maroochydore precincts, where the guidelines allow more.
Boards that face the beach
Corflute for the season, ACM for the years. Within sight of the water the difference shows after one summer, not several. The corflute-or-ACM guide below is for choosing before it costs you a reprint.
Vehicles on the Bruce and the beach strips
Tradies’ utes, surf-school vans and hinterland delivery fleets. Laminated decals, because Coast sun fades an unprotected print faster than anywhere else we work.
Approval on the Sunshine Coast, and why it comes first
Accepted development, or an application
Queensland has no state-wide exemption list to check. Sunshine Coast Council regulates signs through its planning scheme and local laws, so a sign is a question for the council before it is a question for a sign maker. Smaller unlit business signage is often accepted development, meaning no application; larger, illuminated or prominent signs are assessable, and on the Coast the character test weighs heavily, so what is fine on a Maroochydore commercial frontage can be assessable on a Montville verandah. Read does your sign need approval on the Sunshine Coast? before ordering anything that fixes to a building, and ring the council with the dimensions, the mounting position and whether it is lit already in hand.
Three local traps. Noosa is a separate council with its own scheme, so a Noosaville or Tewantin sign is a different phone call. A footpath A-frame in Caloundra or Mooloolaba sits on council land under local-law rules about placement and clear passage. And in the newer Maroochydore precincts and any managed centre, the body corporate or centre management has a signage guideline of its own, and their consent is needed alongside the council’s. The state-wide picture is at Queensland signage approval.
If an application is needed we supply the dimensioned drawings and the scaled elevation, and we schedule fabrication around the approval rather than finishing early and storing your sign in a shed by the sea.
Where the measure happens
The coast strip, then the hills behind it
Caloundra, Kawana and Mooloolaba, Maroochydore and Buderim, Coolum and Peregian, and Noosa with its separate council. Then the hinterland: Nambour, Woombye and Palmwoods, Maleny and Montville, and the Beerwah and Landsborough end of the Glass House country. For a vehicle the measure happens wherever it is parked, including a boat-ramp car park at six in the morning if that is where the van lives. Booking starts from the shopfront signage page or a call to (02) 5302 3372. An hour down the Bruce, Brisbane has its own page and its own council.
Made in Queensland, fitted by the people who measured it
No showroom, on purpose
There is no HSH Prints and Signages counter on the Coast. What there is, is a person at your building with a tape measure and a camera, a quote for that frontage rather than an average one, a proof you mark up on your phone, and the same crew back to fit the finished sign. Fabrication is in Queensland, so a Coast sign does not travel interstate as a freight bill. One number reaches us: (02) 5302 3372.
Common questions from the Coast
What materials survive a beachfront sign?
For anything outdoors within sight of the water we quote marine-tolerant substrates and laminated prints, and for a board the corflute-versus-ACM question is really a lifespan question: corflute is the short-campaign board, ACM the years-long one. Powder-coated frames rather than bare steel for A-frames. We say which we are quoting and why, so a cheaper board is a choice rather than a surprise.
My shop is in Noosa. Is it the same council?
No. Noosa Shire is its own council with its own planning scheme, so the accepted-development thresholds and the character rules differ from Sunshine Coast Council’s. We measure there in the same way; the approval conversation is just with a different office.
Does the body corporate get a say in my sign?
In a tower podium, an arcade or a managed centre, usually yes, and often before the council does. Ask centre management or the body corporate for their signage guideline at the same time you ask the council whether the sign is accepted development. We design to whichever of the two is tighter.
Do you install on the Coast, or just deliver?
Measured signage, shopfronts and vehicles, is installed by the same people who measured it. Boards, banners and A-frames are couriered to your door instead, with delivery already in the price.
Can you make signage for clubs and community groups on the Sunshine Coast?
Yes. Clubs usually need banners, corflute and ground signs; see our sports clubs page. Temporary event signs have council rules, so check the Sunshine Coast approval guide before you put them up.
