Site signage that survives a site

A site sign gets more abuse than almost anything else we print — sun, wind, dust, and a forklift that comes closer than it should. It needs to be legible from the road, replaceable when it gets knocked, and quick to reorder when the job moves to the next address.

What sites usually need

Builder boards, safety and identification

What actually matters on a site sign

Six to eighteen months is the honest outdoor life of corflute before UV makes it brittle and the colour fades — which is normally fine for the length of a job, and cheap enough to replace if the job runs long. If a sign needs to stay up for years rather than months, ask about ACM instead; see corflute or ACM for which suits which timeframe.

Replacements need to be fast, not just cheap. Because corflute runs in the state it is going to, a knocked or faded sign is a same-week reprint rather than an interstate freight wait — useful when a site inspection is booked and a sign is unreadable.

The principal contractor sign is the one the regulator asks about. On a construction project worth $250,000 or more, NSW and Queensland both require a sign showing the principal contractor's name, phone and after-hours numbers and where the site office is, visible from outside the site. Type those details and we set the sign; the rule itself is here.

If the sign needs to say something specific about safety compliance — PPE requirements, hazard warnings, exclusion zones — supply the exact wording your site safety plan requires. We print what you specify; we are not the source of what a site's safety signage is legally required to say.

The same sign, at the next address

The part that is not the printing

A builder’s signs are the same signs with a different address on them. The principal contractor board, the safety board, the fleet decal — once we hold your details and your artwork, a new site is an email with an address in it, not a fresh brief. The sign comes back set the same way, on the same board, from the last run.

One quote for the whole site. A new job usually needs the contractor sign, the safety board, a few plain corflutes for the fence and the A-frame at the gate at once. That is one quote, one proof, one invoice and one delivery to the site office — not four suppliers and four conversations.

Artwork arrives however it arrives. A logo off a letterhead, a licence number typed into an email, a photo of the last sign. Setting up a file you supply is free with every print order; rebuilding a logo off a letterhead or a sign from a photo is design work, quoted before we start.

What that looks like on a real order. Smart Electrical, an electrical contractor in New South Wales, ordered 25 corflute signs at 600 × 900mm, printed one side with eyelets in all four corners — the standard build for a sign that gets cable-tied to a fence and moved between sites — for $445.50 including GST and freight, at the prices of the day (the same order today is $17.60 a sign, delivered). The order arrived, the artwork was set and corrected, the proof was approved and it was paid, all on the same Friday, and the signs were delivered the following Wednesday, two days early. The job, with its dates, is on the case studies page.

Common questions

What goes on a construction site safety sign?

A building site safety sign is usually one board carrying several notices together: a danger or warning header, the PPE required to enter with pictograms, the site induction requirement, the emergency and after-hours contacts, and the authorised-access notice. Ours is a single 900 × 1200mm 5mm corflute board with those panels set from the details you type — contractor, phone, after-hours, PPE list — sold in fives, from $46.30 a board including GST and delivery. The exact wording your site is required to display comes from your site safety plan and your state regulator, not from us: we set what you specify and print it.

How much do site safety signs cost?

Site boards are sold in fives and priced delivered: five filled-in 600 × 900mm safety boards are $160 including GST, five principal contractor signs are $160, and plain corflute site signs with your own artwork fall from $32 each at five to $24.70 at ten, which is why a builder ordering the fence set for a whole job at once pays so much less a board. The courier is already in those figures, and the sign design is included.

Can you produce the same sign for multiple sites?

Yes, and it is usually cheaper per sign the more you order at once — see the quantity ladder on the corflute signs page. Send one artwork file and the quantity.

How weatherproof is the ink, not just the board?

UV-stable outdoor inks as standard. The board itself is the part that eventually gives out from UV brittleness, not the print on it.

Can you brand a whole fleet at once?

Yes — see vehicle signage. Multiple vehicles in one booking is normal and simplifies scheduling for both of us.
