Make a funeral order of service
Type the wording, add a photograph, and download the order of service as a print-ready PDF — an A5 folded card with four pages, or a DL card with a front and a back. It is made here in your browser; the photograph and the words never leave it. If you would rather we set it and print it, send us the wording instead.
1. The front
2. The order of service
One line each, in the order it will happen. A dash after the title adds who is speaking or reading: Eulogy — read by her son, David.
3. A reading, poem or hymn (optional)
Goes on the inside right page. Older hymns and poems can be printed freely; a recent song’s lyrics need permission — see which readings can be printed.
4. The back
3. After the order
Size and look
The PDF has the four pages at A5 for a printer. The A4 version puts them two to a sheet, to print two-sided (flip on the short edge), fold once, and done.
The PDF has the front and the back at DL, 99 × 210mm, for a printer or a home printer set to that size.
Would you rather it arrived printed? On 250gsm matt or 300gsm silk, folded, delivered to you or the funeral director. Send the PDF from this page and it prints as you made it; or send the wording and we set it.
Have it printedBefore you print it
Read it slowly, out loud, and have someone who did not write it read it too. Names, the spelling of relatives’ names and the dates are the things most often wrong, and the hardest to see when you wrote them yourself.
Printing at home: use the A4 version, print two-sided with “flip on short edge”, at 100% (not “fit to page”), on the heaviest paper the printer will take — 160 to 200gsm feels like a card rather than a handout. Fold once along the middle.
Printing with us: 250gsm matt is the quiet choice and takes a pen; 300gsm silk makes the photograph richer. Both are folded and delivered, to you or straight to the funeral director. Allow a week if you can; printing and delivery take 2-4 working days from payment, which follows your approving the proof.
Common questions
Is the photograph uploaded anywhere?
No. The page is made entirely in your browser: the photograph and the words stay on your phone or computer, and the PDF is built there too. Nothing is sent to us unless you choose to have it printed and attach the file yourself.
What size is a funeral order of service?
Most are A5 folded — an A4 sheet folded once, giving four pages 148 × 210mm. A short service or a graveside committal suits a DL card, 99 × 210mm, printed on both sides. A longer service with hymn words needs an 8-page booklet, which we print to order.
Can I print it at home?
Yes. Download the A4 version: it puts the four pages two to a sheet so a home printer prints it two-sided, you fold once, and it is done. Use the heaviest paper the printer takes and print at 100%.
The running order does not fit.
The order flows from the inside left page onto the inside right, and the reading follows it. If it still does not fit, shorten the reading or ask us to print an 8-page booklet, which has room for hymn words and a page of photographs.
Can we use the words of a hymn or a song?
Traditional hymns and older poems are free to print. Recent songs are under copyright, and many churches hold a licence covering words printed for their own services; ask the celebrant, the church or the funeral director. The readings guide lists verses you can print without asking.
Some letters are missing from the PDF.
The free PDF uses standard fonts that cover English and Western European accents. A name with a Greek, Arabic, Vietnamese or other script, or an emoji, cannot be set by it; the preview shows it, the PDF leaves the character out. We can set and print the full version for you.
