Common book printing questions
How much does it cost to print a book?
10 A5 softcover books of 64 pages cost $629, and 50 cost $994, including GST and delivery Australia-wide. The price is set by size, pages and copies; the full grid is above. Other page counts and more than 100 copies are quoted.
What does “64 pages” mean?
Pages are sides, not sheets: a 64-page book is 32 sheets printed on both sides, and the cover is on top of that. If your manuscript falls between the counts here, a few blank pages at the back make it up, or ask for a quote at the exact count.
Can you print hardcover books?
Not at the moment. Every book here is softcover, perfect bound like a paperback.
Which paper should I choose?
Uncoated reads like a novel and takes a pen, so it suits a memoir that is mostly words. Matt is smooth with no glare and holds photographs well. Gloss gives the brightest photographs, for a book that is mostly pictures. All three cost the same.
How wide is the spine?
It depends on the number of pages and the paper. We confirm the spine width when your order comes in, so the cover file can be set to fit; if you send the cover as a flat front and back, we set the spine for you.
Do I need an ISBN?
Only if the book will be sold through shops or libraries. In Australia ISBNs are issued by Thorpe-Bowker. A family history or a celebration-of-life book given to family does not need one.
Can you lay the book out for me?
Yes, as a quoted job: send the text and the photographs on the order request, and artwork setup sets the pages and the cover.
How long does a book take?
Allow 5-8 working days once you approve the proof, plus delivery Australia-wide; your proof page carries a tracker link with the due date on it. Need it by a particular day? Put the date on the order request and we will tell you straight whether it can be done.

Once your files are in, we check every page and the cover, then send a link that opens on your phone. Page through it, drop a pin where something is wrong, and send it back. Nothing is printed until you approve it.
If it comes back wrong against an approved proof, that is on us. If it matches the proof you approved, it is not — which is why the proof is worth a careful read.
